ACCESS Microfinance Initiatives Overview

Over the last decade and a half, the microfinance sector in India has grown incrementally to reach out to over 50 million clients through both the home-grown SHG - Bank Linkage programme as well as through the alternate channel represented by NGO-MFIs. Yet the challenges faced by the sector in India remain numerous and ask for global interventions. Responding to the needs of the microfinance sector in India, ACCESS has placed itself in a capacity to vertically impact all levels of the financial value chain:

On the ground, ACCESS incubates emerging MFIs and builds their capacity to help them upscale their operations, enhance their portfolio and meet the growing demand among poor communities.

ACCESS also seeks to facilitate on-lending fund flows from financial institutions through the ACCESS Microfinance Alliance platform (AmFA), which counts more than 130 MFI partners, reaching out to 3.9 million clients.

At the national level, ACCESS aims at supporting the enabling environment by setting up the Microfinance India Summit, a platform styled as a global annual conference which provides the microfinance community the opportunity to meet and learn from each other, participate in discussions and debates on key issues and be exposed to the international experiences and innovations.
